TC6 - Digitalization - Subcommittee Software

The TC6 Working Group ‘Software’ provides a technical forum for advancing software as a key enabler of digital metrology and digital transformation. In alignment with TC6’s scope, the WG focuses on interoperable, trustworthy, and reproducible software solutions that support the digital representation, processing, exchange, and use of metrological information—including digital calibration/testing/inspection certificates, remote and automated measurement workflows, data analysis pipelines, and secure digital infrastructures.

The WG’s activities emphasize community-driven knowledge curation and practical guidance: collecting and linking relevant tools, repositories, and publications; consolidating developer-oriented specifications and good practices; and facilitating collaboration and exchange (e.g., surveys and webinars) to accelerate adoption of robust, maintainable solutions across metrology and the wider quality infrastructure.

Lab Automation and Data Management

Measurement Canada  ·  NMI / Legal Metrology Regulator

A multi-role platform under active development at Measurement Canada that handles the full DCC lifecycle — from generation and parsing to batch processing and workflow management. Operating as an internal service, it extends the PTB DCC schema with custom additions to meet the specific needs of a legal metrology regulator.

PDF/A-3 Documents from LaTeX

APMP DXFG · RMO Focus Group on Digitalisation

A tutorial and toolchain enabling the generation of PDF/A-3 reports from LaTeX sources, with support for embedding arbitrary auxiliary files (including digital calibration payloads) directly in the PDF. This approach offers a pragmatic, incremental path toward full DCC adoption — organisations can continue producing familiar PDF reports while embedding machine-readable data in the same file.

Checksum Verification of Documents

APMP DXFG · RMO

A proof-of-concept tool that verifies the integrity of calibration documents after they have been issued. By checking document checksums, it allows recipients and auditors to confirm that a certificate has not been altered since its release — a foundational step toward a trustworthy, fully digital calibration chain. Accompanied by a Python demonstration and tutorial.

DCX — Digital Calibration Exchange

DFM — Danish Fundamental Metrology · NMI / Designated Institute

An open-source initiative from DFM that combines DCC tooling with a standardisation effort. DCX introduces a fundamentally different schema structure while providing a suite of generation, validation, transformation, and real-time processing capabilities. Community-maintained and actively seeking collaborators for software development, pilot testing, and standardisation work.

Method to Improve Automation in Calibration Laboratories Implementing DCC Software

CENAM · NMI / Designated Institute

A pilot implementation by Mexico's Centro Nacional de Metrología (CENAM) exploring how DCC software can be embedded into real calibration laboratory workflows to increase automation. Focused on the practical integration of DCC generation, parsing, and workflow management into an NMI environment, the project operates within the PTB DCC schema and is available for pilot testing in partnership with interested organisations.
